Celebrating Literacy Leadership: A National Spotlight on SDIRC

We are honored to share that the School District of Indian River County (SDIRC), in partnership with The Learning Alliance and the Moonshot Community Action Network (MCAN), has been featured in a national article by the Tampa Bay Times, highlighting our collective efforts to improve literacy outcomes for students in Indian River County.

This recognition underscores our unwavering commitment to ensuring that every child can read, write, and succeed. It is a testament to the collaborative spirit and dedication of our educators, families, and community partners.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to:

The Learning Alliance for their transformative work in literacy education and community engagement.

Moonshot Community Action Network (MCAN) for their innovative initiatives and unwavering support in our shared mission.

Jeff Martin and The Children’s Literacy Project for their impactful storytelling and reminder of what's possible when communities put children first.

Together, we are making strides toward a future where literacy is within reach for every child. Thank you for your continued partnership and dedication to this vital cause.

Today we celebrated National Custodian Day by thanking our amazing custodial team for all they do to keep our school safe, clean, and welcoming. Their hard work often happens behind the scenes, but it makes a huge difference in our daily lives. We also took a moment to say goodbye to Mr. John, who has accepted a new job opportunity. While we are excited for his future, we will deeply miss his kindness, dedication, and the care he put into our school.

Today our 3rd graders focused on honesty during Character Education. 💭 They learned that telling the truth, admitting mistakes, and being trustworthy helps build strong friendships and a caring school community. 💙🐢 At The Nest, character counts—and our students are growing into honest, kind leaders every day! 🌟

Remembering September 11, 2001

Today, we pause to remember the lives lost, the courage of first responders, and the resilience of a nation forever changed by the events of September 11, 2001.

In schools across our District, we take time to honor the significance of this day, ensuring our students understand the importance of unity, service, and compassion in the face of tragedy. As we reflect, we are reminded of the strength found in community and the enduring impact of coming together in support of one another.

We will never forget.

09.11 Patriot Day
Today, our school community came together to honor Patriot’s Day and remember September 11, 2001. Our Safety Patrol Flag Team led the ceremony with pride, and the rhythm of our talented drum line filled the air as we gathered around the flag. We were especially moved by the words of our guest speaker, Ms. Shukri, our Resource Specialist. Her message carried deep meaning as she shared her personal experience of being in New York on September 11, 2001. Her story reminded us of the importance of resilience, unity, and never forgetting the heroes of that day. Thank you to everyone who participated and attended. It was a powerful and meaningful morning at The Nest, where learning, respect, and remembrance stand tall. ❤️🤍💙
